Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator, who works as a commentator for NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She received an undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. In 1967 Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington she was named general correspondent by NBC News two year later. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. Mitchell was named the chief White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell has appeared in the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. Mitchell joined the panel of the 1988 presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contribution to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy stories over the years, including budget reform, tax reform and an investigation into the Iran Contra saga. She travelled extensively with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
